During the production of the Algorrid3m hit Better Days in 2017, a sequel titled Even Better Days was presented to Egmond by the EDM hit maker previously known as DJ Slay. The artist fell in love with it and immediately wrote lyrics and a melody to the track and recorded a demo for it.
The song was retitled when the original name couldn’t fit into the chorus; but to honour what was meant to be a sequel of sorts in the name, the old title was worked into the lyrics. The new song was set for inclusion on the 2018 Greatest Hits album Meer Sirkus Applous, but with time running out to record it, it was ultimately replaced by the Christmas Remix of V’more.
Despite being left off the album, plans were still underway to release the song. Filming for its music video took place in March 2019 on the Indian Ocean. A behind-the-scenes video of the recording was released on YouTube the next month. External delays meant that production on the song was pushed into 2020.
Recordings finally took place in June 2020 and Marc Skarda from October Sun Productions (who previously helmed the Paradys single’s production) returned to produce the song. The single was eventually released in December 2020, accompanied by a music video that was filmed the year before. The version edited for the music video was also included on the single release.
The single failed to take off, despite being a favourite in many countries around the globe, with New York listed on Spotify as the city in which the song has been most popular with listeners. Disappointed by the response, the song was shelved and no further promotion took place.
Fast forward to early 2022, and the opportunity arose to re-record the track with producer Sandy Robbie. The original plan was to include the song on the album Sirkus Applous Encore, but when it was passed on in favour of its Afrikaans counterpart, Pyn, it once again seemed to be the end of the song. Pyn was not completed in time for Sirkus Applous Encore, and the album saw a release with 10 songs versus the planned 13.
When the artist’s 20th anniversary in the music industry neared. a decision was made to release an album consisting of 20 songs. Choosing 20 hits proved difficult, but this made for the opportunity to revisit older songs that never had their chance to shine, and Everything We Say was locked in for the project. Despite Pyn originally sharing the same melody, the production and arrangement, and eventual altered melody lines, meant that both Pyn and Everything We Say would work together on the new collection called Koeksister Pop.
Whilst Pyn was in production, delays during the Afrikaans single’s production meant that there was an opportunity to revisit the recording. Recordings started in August and the original 2020 vocals were pulled form the archives for the new remake. The original version was then retired in September to avoid confusion for the upcoming marketing. While not intended for the song, additional vocals by Australian singer Kaley was recorded in October. “The Sandy Robbie Remake” was completed in November 2022.
The 2020 music video was originally re-edited to accompany the remake, however the footage didn’t match the new vision of the song and a new video was filmed in September 2022. The first imagery appeared on social media shortly after the recording. A “behind the scenes” video was released on YouTube with two teases of the song’s music video. The version used in the video snippet’s tease omitted Kaley’s vocals, which would only be added after filming was completed.
The remake was chosen as the co-lead single for the greatest hits album, Koeksister Pop , alongside Afrikaans single Pyn (ft Kaley). Its music video was completed late November, just two weeks before its premiere. A cameo of Kaley was hidden in the video, with additional footage by CottonBro Studios, Pexels. When promotion commenced with Egmond’s new PR at the time, the iconic Lydia Winchester, the decision was made to focus only on Pyn, and all marketing for the Sandy Robbie Remake was ceased. However, two years later, when BBC6’s Don Letts added the Algorrid3m remix of the 2017 hit Better Days to his Spotify playlist, the artist immediately knew that it’s sequel, Everything We Say, needed the same remix treatment. “I was surprised that Better Days‘ more ‘basic’ version got picked by Don Letts,” says Egmond, “but this made me realize that perhaps I should take the same approach with Everything We Say since it was obvious that there is a market for this kind of music.”
Going through the archives, the first version of the remake produced in 2022 was rediscovered. In contrast to the released Sandy Robbie Remake, this first version omitted the additional backing vocals of songbird Kaley, with a low key production and a more ethereal sound to the vocals. To test whether this unreleased version would work, the artist revisited the 2019 music video footage. Although this footage was meant to be reused for the Sandy Robbie Remake, and ultimately discarded in favour of new footage filmed in 2022, the sound of this unreleased mix worked perfectly with the new look of the video. The new updated version of the music video was completed in late March 2024.
Two remixes were eventually produced for the single release, with Sandy Robbie stripping down the 2022 remake, resulting in the main remix. The main music video for the single features this version. It made its premiere on April 1st. The Algorrid3m Remix features the vocals of the first production, with additional music from the original 2017 production by Algorrid3m. An alternate music video for this version debuted upon the single’s release and utilizes the 2022 recorded footage.
As an homage to an unreleased music video of the 2017 demo of Everything We Say, the video was also changed to black and white, which reinforced the simplicity and beauty of the song. “I loved the original music video, and I nearly released the demo video of it just for the fun of it, but I’m glad I didn’t, because I got to use the same idea here and this time it turned out even better.”
Upon the release of the single, Springbok Internet Radio premiered the song. Egmond returned to Dutch airwaves with the song makings its European debut on Streektaal Radio, while more local stations added the single to their playlists including Jou Stasie, IFM, Luister FM, Radio Namakwaland and more. Several media outlets, including Olka Bolka e-Magazine, Die Waarheid, Glans Lewe and Galore SA Media have shared the press release. BBC6 personality Don Letts also shared the story of the new single on his Instagram profile. Interviews with the artist commenced in May 2024 on Jou Stasie, IFM, Radio Namakwaland, Springbok Internet Radio, 90.6FM, Radio Laeveld, Overvaal Stereo and LuisterFM, and continued in June on Harties FM, JouRadio, LekkerFM, Kosmos Stereo and Rosestad FM. July interviews followed on Impala Radio and SAWV SADFA Radio, while the final interview promoting the song on Radio Overberg FM would air on August 1st 2024 to make way for the next single Spookasem.
The single would eventually become the main version of the song released, and officially became the artist’s 24th single. In 2026 a CD-single was released, which included both the remake and two remixes from 2024. In June 2026 the 12″ Vinyl record of the single was released on Elastic Stage.

STREAM “EVERYTHING WE SAY” HERE
The brightness in our room dissipates the gloom. It has to be that we are both in tune. We’re anchored in our ways with even better days. Our history repeats while our song plays. Making love to you as we run in all directions, run in all directions to… Everything we say and everything we do will always bring us back to me and you. Hiding in the sun, flying to the moon – it replicates the sum of me and you. Excitement all around; the noise is muted sound. The bond between us has us always bound. Making love to you…
