When BBC6’s Don Letts added the Algorrid3m remix of the 2017 hit Better Days to his Spotify playlist, the artist immediately knew that it’s sequel, Everything We Say, needed the same remix treatment. “I was surprised that Better Days‘ more ‘basic’ version got picked by Don Letts,” says Egmond, “but this made me realize that perhaps I should take the same approach with Everything We Say since it was obvious that there is a market for this kind of music.”

Going through the archives, the first version of the remake produced in 2022 was rediscovered. In contrast to the released Sandy Robbie Remake, this first version omitted the additional backing vocals of songbird Kaley, with a low key production and a more ethereal sound to the vocals.

To test whether this unreleased version would work, the artist revisited the 2019 music video footage. Although this footage was meant to be reused for the Sandy Robbie Remake, and ultimately discarded in favour of new footage filmed in 2022, the sound of this unreleased mix worked perfectly with the new look of the video. The new updated version of the music video was completed in late March 2024.

Two remixes were eventually produced for the single release, with Sandy Robbie stripping down the 2022 remake, resulting in the main remix. The main music video for the single features this version. It made its premiere on April 1st.

The Algorrid3m Remix features the vocals of the first production, with additional music from the original 2017 production by Algorrid3m. An alternate music video for this version debuted upon the single’s release and utilizes the 2022 recorded footage.

Despite being a minor video hit, the Sandy Robbie Remake took a backseat when fellow singles Pyn and Ongelooflik, from the parent album Koeksister Pop, took preference during its promotion in 2023. When the opportunity therefore presented itself to revisit the track, Egmond did so without hesitation.

As an homage to an unreleased music video of the 2017 demo of Everything We Say, the video was also changed to black and white, which reinforced the simplicity and beauty of the song. “I loved the original music video, and I nearly released the demo video of it just for the fun of it, but I’m glad I didn’t, because I got to use the same idea here and this time it turned out even better.”

Upon the release of the single, Springbok Internet Radio premiered the song. Egmond returned to Dutch airwaves with the song makings its European debut on Streektaal Radio, while more local stations added the single to their playlists including Jou Stasie, IFM, Luister FM, Radio Namakwaland and more. Several media outlets, including Olka Bolka e-Magazine, Die Waarheid, Glans Lewe and Galore SA Media have shared the press release. BBC6 personality Don Letts also shared the story of the new single on his Instagram profile. Interviews with the artist commenced in May 2024 on Jou Stasie, IFM, Radio Namakwaland, Springbok Internet Radio, 90.6FM, Radio Laeveld, Overvaal Stereo and LuisterFM, and continued in June on Harties FM, JouRadio, LekkerFM, Kosmos Stereo and Rosestad FM. July interviews followed on Impala Radio and SAWV SADFA Radio, while the final interview promoting the song on Radio Overberg FM would air on August 1st 2024 to make way for the next single Spookasem.

The brightness in our room dissipates the gloom. It has to be that we are both in tune. We’re anchored in our ways with even better days. Our history repeats while our song plays. Making love to you as we run in all directions, run in all directions to… Everything we say and everything we do will always bring us back to me and you. Hiding in the sun, flying to the moon – it replicates the sum of me and you. Excitement all around; the noise is muted sound. The bond between us has us always bound. Making love to you…
